Ep 132: Tiny Tip: Floors For Joy

These tiny tips are designed to give you one small thing you can do to be a better creator in your life. Each tip is inspired by the Law of Creation. Creation includes what we see, say, feel, and do, which leads to who we become. If you want a deep dive into the law of creation, check out my free law of creation course on my app, Co Create by Brooke Snow, found in the apple and google app stores or visit brookesnow.com/app.

While everyone loves the principle of floors and ceilings we talked about in Ep. 130, most people immediately think of it for the habits they feel like they “should” be doing more consistently in life. Eat better. Exercise. Read scriptures. Meditate.

It always delights me to invite people to also create floors for the things that bring you joy. It is so easy as our lives get busier for us to let go of some of the things we used to really love doing. Hobbies, interests, and even nurturing friendships. We just don’t have the time for those things…

Or do we?

We may think we don’t have time because we have a ceiling expectation. We think we need hours or even a full weekend to make some of these things happen and if that time block isn’t available we just don’t do it.

You will be a more effective creator in your life if you are making space for joy. God created us to have joy. And when you do things that light you up, it has a transcendent effect, supporting you in also doing other tasks and responsibilities with more ease and enjoyment. But you have to be honoring the spark inside of you that’s calling for you to do the unique things that makes your soul sing.

What is that for you?

If it’s been awhile since you even considered those things, what did they used to be?
Did you play an instrument? Write? Do arts or crafts? Enjoy the outdoors? Reading? Sports? Have a curiosity about a certain topic you love to research? Did you love building things with your hands? Connecting with friends who share a common interest? Think for a moment about what lights you up?

Do you have a regular dose of this your life? Regular dose… like daily or a few times a week?
If not, here’s my invitation to you to create a small version. Create a floor for what brings you joy.

Some of my floors for joy include playing one song on the piano, or even just the first page of one of favorite pieces.

Walking around the block, or even standing in the grass in my backyard.

Making a fun drink and sitting by the fire in winter or on the back deck in warmer weather without doing anything but being present and enjoying my drink.

Pushing play on a favorite podcast while I run errands.

Leaving a voice message for a friend to start a fun conversation we both take part in throughout the day when we have a moment to respond.

Sewing one quilt square before bed.

Doing an extra step in my skin care routine like a clay mask or facial.

Taking a creative photo of our family life to record a moment in time.

All of these things could take hours. And sometimes I’ll let them take that long because I’m having lots of fun. Other times I give myself a quick burst of joy to just fill up on some light. If I’m getting those little doses life feels less like a long to-do list and more like a rich and fulfilling experience I’m being intentional about.

Create a floor for joy. This is just as important for you to do as all those other “shoulds” in your life. Maybe even more. You are made for joy.

See it.
Say it.
Feel it.
Do it.
Become it.

You are a creator. Now go Co Create something great.
