Do you ever get discouraged with yourself?
Wish you could be farther along? Wonder why it seems like everyone else has things figured out and is progressing faster than you?
I have great news for you!
You’re doing so much better than you think you are!
How do I know?
Because I have finally learned the truth about progress. It happens little by little. Mostly when you’re not looking. One tiny step after another. In the moment tiny steps seem rather insignificant, but there comes a time when you’re able to turn around and discover that you have travelled so much farther than you realized!
The Right Way to Compare:
9 Month Benchmark
You already know you shouldn’t be comparing your progress to anyone else, but what about comparing your progress to yourself? Who are you today versus who you were yesterday?
One of my mentor’s wisely told me that I should not even be comparing the Brooke of today to the Brooke of yesterday.
“If you really want to compare your progress,” she said, “Compare yourself today to the person you were NINE MONTHS AGO. It takes nine months to develop a person to be born into this world, and roughly the same amount of time to see true transformation in ourselves.”
I LOVE this advice. So. Very. Much. Because progress happens line upon line, step by step, it can feel slow and imperceptable.
Think back 9 months ago…
Who were you then?
Do you see how much you have learned?! You have made it through some big trials! You still have things you’re working on and trying to figure out, but you’ve come so far in nine months! Do you see it?
It’s true. You’re doing so much better than you think you are!
