8. The Order of Love (One Heart Love Lessons)

Our relationships shape us deeply—and, let’s be honest, they can make life beautifully complex. Not only do you have an ego, but so does everyone else! And to add another layer, we’re all in different stages of awakening.

If you’re already on a journey of learning to love yourself, you’ll likely notice it becomes easier to love others too. These two loves—self and other—are deeply interconnected. One nourishes the other.

In this Creator Field Note, I want to talk about what I’ve come to call the order of love.

One of the greatest teachers and advocates of all time on the topic of love was Jesus.
When Jesus was asked what the most important commandment was, He replied:

“Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.” (Matthew 22:37-38)”And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”

In a world that was so quick to judge and condemn, this message of love being above all other laws was quite a radical message. Our time is not so different. Our culture today is likewise quick to judge, to cancel, and to condemn. And choosing love first is still radical. Radical only because it isn’t yet the default. But it is the way to peace and freedom.
