Intro to The Art of Receiving
There’s often a quiet shame around the act of receiving. Culturally, we’ve come to see receiving as selfish, indulgent, or even weak. Many of us have been conditioned to believe that nobility lies in constant giving, that somehow humility means not accepting support, praise, or abundance. But here’s the simple truth: giving requires energy, and energy can only be replenished by receiving.
Lesson #1: The Abundance Cycle
Thank you so much for joining me in The Art of Receiving Series. In our first lesson, I mentioned The Abundance Cycle, and how receiving fits into this cycle, and I think it would be beneficial if we spent a whole lesson going over the details of how this cycle works, so you start to see it in action in all parts of your life.
If we really get to the heart of what we each want, it’s going to come under the umbrella of abundance. We each have something that our heart desires, whether that is an abundance of love, an abundance of opportunity, an abundance of resources, whatever it may be, we desire to receive something because we first believe we are lacking it.
Part of what we are doing in this course is to open our eyes to the abundance we already have because this prepares us to receive more, which prepares us to give more, and creates a beautiful, sustainable cycle that keeps on receiving and giving. It multiplies and replenishes.
Lesson #2: Scarcity and Sympathetic Joy
Receiving Through Resonance
At the heart of this lesson lies a simple but profound truth: we are not separate. In a world that often teaches us to compete, compare, and guard what we have, this truth offers an invitation for us to shift—from isolation into interconnection. This is how we move from scarcity into shared abundance. The principle we explore in this note is called “receiving through resonance.” It’s the practice of allowing the joy, success, and blessings of others to be felt within our own being.
Lesson #3: Divine Discontent
Is there such a thing as having too much gratitude? The answer may surprise you. Greek philosopher Aristotle taught that “any virtue in excess or deficiency can become a vice.” Gratitude is an essential virtue for a joyful and fulfilling life, and yet, like all virtues, there is an important balance to maintain. In this lesson, we’re going to talk about the feeling that provides the proper balance to gratitude. It’s called divine discontent.
Lesson #4: Receiving Current Blessings
Have you received the blessings you already have in your life?
It may sound strange to ask a question like that. If blessings are present, doesn’t that infer we have received them? Not necessarily. In this lesson, we’re going to explore what blocks us from receiving, and how we can more fully receive what we already have. Spoiler alert, receiving what you already have is preparatory to receiving more…So if there are specific blessings your heart longs for in the future, then you need to start by receiving what you already have. One precedes the other.
Lesson #5: Let Desire Work in You
What do you want? What is the desire of your heart? This seems like a simple question, but it is surprisingly hard for many people to answer. Oftentimes, people are more clear on what they don’t want than what they do.
In this lesson, we will explore the importance desire plays in creation and hopefully shed some of the shame and fear that can keep our desires from ever bearing fruit. In this Art of Receiving series, it is likely that you desire future blessings. It’s important to know what you desire so you can help participate in the co-creation of those desires coming to pass. In essence, we will learn how to “let this desire take root in you,” so you can receive what your heart truly wants and what the unconditionally loving Divine Creator wants for you, too.
Lesson #6: Something Better
Have you ever wished for or prayed for something and not received it? My whole life, whenever there was an unanswered prayer, the people around me would attribute it to not being God’s will. I am sure the intent was meant to help be supportive, but that isn’t how it felt to me. Instead, it made me feel like God didn’t want me to have what my heart wanted to have. And if I was ever to align my will to God’s I’d have to let go of wanting anything or learn how to be happy settling for something less.
In this lesson, we’re going to talk about how to reframe what God’s will means . Too often, when people don’t immediately get what they hope for, they give up, believing the Universe doesn’t want it for them. This lesson reveals how the will of God, the Universe, the Divine, Source, Nature, Unconditional love, is actually better than you can even imagine…which is probably why we miss receiving sometimes, simply because we’re too busy looking for the blessing we think we want instead of being open to something even better.
Lesson #7: Belief and Unbelief
Have you ever hoped deeply for something—and still found a small, quiet voice inside wondering if it could really happen for you?
In this episode of the Art of Receiving, we’re exploring a tender and often misunderstood block to receiving: unbelief. Unlike doubt in general or a total absence of faith, unbelief often lives right alongside hope. It’s the part of us that believes miracles are possible—just not for us. Unbelief is personal. And it’s something so many of us experience—especially when we’ve waited, tried, and hoped without seeing the outcome we long for.
