Weeks Top Review

Some of this weeks inspiring moments:

1.  GOOD RELATEABLE CHUCKLE:  The Photographers Workout. I can totally relate.  I can’t tell you the number of shoots I have come home sore and exhausted.  Especially shooting pregnant!  Wowsers!  I seemed to think my body was still capable of getting in certain places for the perfect shot.  Adrenaline made it work but I sure paid for it later 🙂  P.S.  Pilates has totally helped my photography (wink wink).

2.  PHOTO TIP:  Metering: A Photography Triangle. So I have totally wanted to do this exact same type of example and have still not gotten around to it!  So Stacey beat me to it!  Three cheers for shooting in manual… If you know how to meter and shoot in manual magic happens.  Like when I shot in a dark Dr.’s Office last week and asked to turn the lights off so we could only use natural light and it STILL worked and looked glorious 🙂  Thank you metering.  Oh yeah… and thank you ISO 1600–but thats another lesson 😉

3.  PRICING:  Do Photographers Really Make Money? Excellent break down that most people don’t really understand.  Next time you start figuring up a projected income from looking at someone’s online pricing–remember all the little things that we don’t see.  And next time as a photographer we work on our pricing, remember to not cut yourself short by remembering that nearly half isn’t yours to keep anyway 🙂

4.  INSPIRATIONAL: Rain Running. Chris always has great thoughts.  One lovely snippet: ”

If you base your workout schedule on the weather, you’ll never build a habit of exercise. The same is true for writing or any other creative practice: base it on anything outside your control, and good luck getting anything done.

In a creative practice, waiting for “inspiration” is the worst. I follow the Somerset Maugham school of inspiration: “I write only when inspiration strikes. Fortunately, it strikes every morning at nine o’clock sharp.”

The whole article is worth a serious read.  I couldn’t have said it better myself.

5.  COMPOSITION, IMPROVING YOUR IMAGES: How to go Beyond the Regular Composition Advice for Getting the Best Shots of your Kids. Great advice that builds on what we most commonly hear.
