Tree Swing {Family Life Project 52}

First of all, every house should have a good tree.

Second of all, that good tree should have a swing.

I have wanted a swing for our majestic Horse Chestnut Tree since the day we moved in.  I’m pretty picky about aesthetic on the homefront, so it took me quite a while before I found the perfect one from Peg and Awl on Etsy.

The next problem was figuring out how to put it up when the closest branch was 30 feet above ground 🙂

We had some professional tree pruners come to prune our bushes and trees this week and I was inspired to ask if they could put up our swing that I’ve had sitting in my closet for six months…

If you wondered if professional tree climbers exist… they do. The guy harnessed himself in, tossed a rope thirty feet in the air and lassoed a branch. It took him about 30 seconds to pull and walk himself up the tree. Amazing.

Best of all… it’s totally wide enough to hold two people and strong enough to hold adults.  I haven’t laughed and soared with glee through the air like that in 25 years!

Best stress relief of the whole year.

  1. Those are gorgeous pictures! Tell me, did you have your hubby push that cute little toad while you took pictures? Or some other trick?

    1. Oooh… I actually pushed him and then ran further back and shot the pictures 🙂 The swing has a huge rope of 30 feet so a few good pushes keeps you going for quite while 🙂

  2. I am so jealous that is the most beautiful swing in the whole world. I always wish that we had a tree mature enough for a tyre swing, but this is so much better! a true keepsake. Sounds like you had a heap of fun. waiting for the self-portrait…

    1. Jessica, you’re right 🙂 I need a self portrait! I’ll get working on that one! Those become more tricky when movement is involved!

  3. I found your website a few weeks ago and love what I’ve read and seen so far. Then I read the post above and felt that I’d found a kindred spirit. I grew up with a swing like that and have always longed for one for my children. There’s nothing like that feeling of soaring through the air – on a truly long swing. Thanks for your posts, your creativity and your desire to teach and share. I look forward to learning more. =)

    1. Oh Tammi! I love new kindred spirits! Especially tree swing lovers! Thanks for stopping by! I look forward to getting to know you better!

      Delightfully,

  4. Brooke, I’m completely in love with all of the cute expressions you captured. (And I might be a little jealous of that swing). Checking out that link!
