Tiny Tip: What is the ‘real’ golden hour for photography?

You’ve heard of the “golden hour” of day, I suppose? The hour of sunrise and sunset that nearly every photographer delights in shooting?

I’m one of the crowd who LOVES that time of day just as much as any other photographer,

BUT…

It doesn’t always work for me!

Remember, this time of day is usually when everybody else is eating breakfast or dinner!

Have you ever considered instead, photographing at the HAPPIEST time of day?

Today’s Tiny Tip takes a new twist on what hour might really be the “golden one”!

Brooke Snow is a Lifestyle photographer in Cache Valley, Utah. Her happiest time of day is 8:00 a.m.  She’s usually had a lovely morning meditation, a nice sleep, a great workout, and her husband makes her two organic fried eggs with local grown spinach and cheese on honey whole wheat bread (every morning!). The whole family is peaceful, happy and content. 5:00 p.m. however, is not so happy.  She’s working on that.

Brooke teaches inspiring online photography classes that bring you confidence in your skills and creativity.

  1. The hour of happy is a perfect way to describe the best time for shooting. I’m amazed at the way you are able to pull out an idea from the way you photograph, give it a name, and teach about it in such a great way. Just awesome, Brooke!

  2. I’m not really a people photographer, mostly landscapes and animals. However, I do love to take pics of my son and would love to take better ones of him. Thanks for your tips! I wish you could be my mentor!
