The big 3-0

It happened.  I got old.

Last month.

I had the birthday where both digits change 🙂  In anticipation for the big event, Ben asked if there was anything special I wanted for my thirtieth birthday.  Without hesitation, I said, “I want to fly in a small plane and get an up close and personal aerial tour of Zion National Park.”

“Done.” he said promptly.

It kind of helps that we know a really great pilot who lives by Zion.  (My fantastic Father-in-law)

What a great Pilot!

I can’t even describe how amazing the experience was for me!  Ben and I spent our honeymoon hiking in Zion and I remember being completely awestruck by the incredible red rock formations.

Flying through was no exception.  It was one of those life experiences that I just kept repeating over and over, “Wow. Oh wow! WOW!”  I just couldn’t help but be humbled and grateful to  God for His majestic beauty on the Earth.

Southern Utah is amazing.

Zion is amazing.

And even though he didn’t get to go up, Buzzy thought the planes were pretty cool.

The awesome view from the “old” St. George airport 🙂

What a fantastic birthday!  It was certainly worth waiting 30 years for!

We turned the flight(s) into a fun family flying event over Christmas.  The exciting slideshow can be found HERE.

Brooke Snow is a Lifestyle photographer in Cache Valley, Utah. She is now putting forth more effort into actually documenting the life of her own family!  Hooray!  And in the process has discovering some interesting things… like the beauty of shooting jpgs instead of RAW… oh my.  Who knew? With a little more experimentation it just might switch her over to the jpg side for good.  We’ll see…

Brooke teaches private photography lessons , online photography classes, as well as monthly photography classes in Logan, Utah.

  1. i shoot in jpg for family stuff…. i don’t ever edit them, so why use all that extra space on my card? love the pictures!! and happy belated birthday!

  2. That looks like so much fun! LOVE all the pictures! Happy belated Birthday by the way! 🙂 If you ever wanna fly around Cache Valley, my husband is a pilot too! “His” little plane is just sitting at the airport waiting to go!

  3. Love the 2nd the last shot of buzzy. I might have to try shooting in JPEG sometime. For me, RAW literally saves about 10% of my pictures that don’t get exposed quite right. The percentage keeps going down, so maybe JPG, but not just yet. That and my whole workflow and post-production techniques are based on a RAW source file.

  4. I hear ya Vince 🙂 I have just discovered that the exposures that I do nail in jpg need practically no editing whatsoever, and if I add a tiny sharpness in LR it looks absolutely stunning. Much more so on the JPG than the RAW. I’ll keep experimenting, but it is quite tempting to make the switch.

  5. I adore shooting jpeg, not gonna lie. But I think it’s for the same reason: I shoot SO MUCH pictures of my family (of course in jpeg) that it’s just comfortable and easy to do the same for my photo shoots.

  6. Happy Belated Birthday!!! What an awesome birthday adventure!!!

Guilty: I shoot in JPEG all the time. Truth be told, I’m scared to venture to RAW =) I’ll force myself sometime. I just don’t know HOW to process it AT all.

And I LOVE the b/w shot of Buzzy! You can totally HEAR his excitement! Love it!

  7. What an awesome way to spend your “30 year young” birthday! What a great man to simply respond to your wish as “done”. It seems you are one special and lucky lady to have all that goodness in your young life. (smile) That little Buzz guy is pretty cute too…

  8. Brooke! Happy Late Birthday! I love love the photos. Especially the one of Buzzy being pushed in the stroller with the awesome sun and the ones from the air. By the way…Patrick is drooling over my shoulder…first time he’s ever drooled over a photo blog including mine 🙂
