Why people hesitate to go BIG

I’ve said the same thing myself before…

“I don’t know if I should order a very large photograph if its just going to be outdated soon?”
“What if we have more kids?”

“We still haven’t decided and its been six months since the photo was taken…we look different now!”

Last week I confidently ordered my first canvas for my home.  A whopping 24×36 canvas.

And guess what? I finally found my personal answer to the common hesitancy of images becoming outdated:

STORYTELLING IMAGES ARE TIMELESS.

It doesn’t matter that this image is almost a year old. It still won’t matter in twenty years.  The image was never meant to portray what Buzzy looked like in 2011.  It’s an image that reminds me of the wonder of childhood, the communication between a boy and his animal friends, the imagination found in books, and a myriad of other thoughts. It tells a story.

There will be many other stories that happen in our family in the years to come. I’ve long since abandoned traditional portraiture in favor of seeking out the stories of our life.  I can’t wait to fill our walls with images the make me think.

pause.

wonder.

and be grateful.

Are your stories on your walls?

  1. Such a great post. We recently just bought our own 30×40 canvas of the kids, and I’m so happy we finally caved in. It’s a piece of art we’ll treasure forever and ever, and it brings such happiness to the room. 🙂

  2. Hi Brooke, Out of all the wonderful pictures that i have seen you take ,this is by far, hands down the most touching one and my favorite. I have no doubt it will warm and cheer your heart for many years to come! Great choice, Miranda

  3. You hit the nail on the head when you said it was never meant to portray what Buzzy looked like at the time! That’s exactly the way I feel about a lot of what I shoot. It’s about the STORY. I’m trying to get people to understand that and consider albums more often!
