My Picture Story

Amazingly, I didn’t take a single picture of my family for the first six months of 2014.
Granted, we had a few things going on (building a house, prepping a house for sale, moving, having a baby, almost dying, …)

Those six months are not only a blur, but they represent complete apathy toward photography.

You’d think that having a new adorable face around here would spark the interest again, but truthfully, it was Kirsten Lewis’s Creative Live course that completely awakened that precious spark of curiosity. It’s been good to pick up the camera again with new goals and new eyes.

This guy is fascinated with coloring. And drawing.

I love all the projects he comes up with on his own, as well as all the art projects from pre-school.

How I wish that this creative focus on art didn’t die out the older you get in school. There’s a special spirit that creating in this way brings to your life experience. I stopped all this by sixth grade. Why does this happen? Do we suddenly think our art isn’t good? That this is childish? That there are more important things to do? Do we just choose where to spend our increasingly limited time?

Wise parents: how do you keep this spirit of creating art alive?

  1. I saw Kirsten Lewis speak on Creative Live. I was mesmerized by her photo style and her way of looking at things. I remember thinking I’m drawing photographer teachers to me that are creating layers of meaning in my interest of photography. I also did a few of your courses via Rock The Shoot. Your classes also came with powerful messages.

Loving the photo of your son drawing with his tongue out. Such concentration and total presence.
