Magic Monday: Delegation

I’ll be outright honest.

I am going through a major writing block.

I feel like all of the creativity within me has been zapped into nonexistence.

And now I’m drawing a blank. Even though my head is overflowing with thoughts about everything else 🙂 You might consider me slightly distracted with life.

I have actually cheered on the near two feet of snow that we have received, knowing full well that it will slow things down.  I want to go on vacation at home.  Is that possible?  I want to turn off my google reader for a few weeks, do the minimal amount of email to sustain things, and read books that have nothing to do with business and photography.  Maybe actually read a fiction novel?!  gasp!

Thats a really long explanation to say that

I’ve got nothing today.  Magic Monday looks sad.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

To save all blog readers from sad little posts such as this, I’d love to have some feedback 🙂

Yep.  I actually am delegating.

What would you like addressed in a Magic Monday post?

Please leave your thoughts and questions in the comment section.

Hope your Thanksgiving was grand.

I have the strongest temptation to paint a little lightening bolt to Buzzy’s forehead… I’m resisting.

Brooke Snow is a Lifestyle photographer in Cache Valley, Utah. In effort to try to find more balance in her life–(think about and do things other than photography…) she  has entertained the following ideas… start a local book club (want to join?!), learn how to sew (though she does need a machine which poses a problem), and she just started her 15th blog (12 of which are private to Brooke only… she must have a lot of secrets…or she knows that the content is likely appealing to an audience of one.)  Why not set goals early?  She wants balance NOW.  Not waiting till 2011.

Brooke teaches private photography lessons , online photography classes, as well as monthly photography classes in Logan, Utah.

  1. A workflow video created with a microphone and screen capture tool would be fabulous. Ie, this is how I sort my images in Lightroom, then I make these types of edits, then I move into Photoshop to do these types of edits, then I upload to Smugmug and burn a disc.

Obviously you can hold back any “secret sauce” portions, but I’ve always found these types of walk-throughs to be very helpful.

Maybe a magic monday about pricing? I know pricing is a pain point for me right now. (but I think you’ve already done this one in the past)

  2. If you are needing a break I think it’s GOOD you are taking it! I am also feeling a bit photo-ed out right now! I have one more shoot on Saturday (or a newborn – which is hard!) and then none til the new year and I NEED a break too! I wish I lived close enough to attend your book club AND help you with sewing 😉

  3. OH man! I say paint it! Just for giggles! =) He’s so cute! He totally could rock a little lightening bolt with his Harry Potter move!

As for Magic Monday ideas? I don’t know. =( Sorry, I’m no help, but I had to support your idea for Buzzy!

  4. I feel the same way about the photography life and wanting to vacation at home. Yeah for snow! I’m looking forward to the quiet months of January through March. But in the same way that I’m ready to take a break from the camera, I know I’ll be itching to pick it back up when spring rolls around. Let’s start a club, long distance? Will that work? You’ve also got me curious about the other 14 blogs. Hmmm.

  5. I love your mini Harry Potter photo. Such a darling shot.

I have a friend who does a fitness blog and every so often she will post links to articles from other fitness guru’s that she thinks we (her readers) would also be interested in. With so many photography websites and blogs out there, it’s nice to have someone just post a link to something that they think is totally awesome and helpful. Especially if it comes from a photographer that you admire. I would imagine with all your networking, you find some great reads every week/month that would be fun for us (your readers) to read too.

Maybe you could categorize your Monday posts. Maybe the first Monday of the month could be a business related Magic Monday. The second could be photography tips, tricks, inspiration, workflow, etc. Maybe you could even have a guest photographer take a Monday as well. Just some thoughts. I love your blog. Thanks for sharing and being so willing to teach and inspire others.

ps. I have forgotten to tell you but at our lighting class, one of the girls came up to me and said, “I just love Brooke. She has answered every single one of my emails and seems to really care about how I am progressing in my photography. I have emailed so many photographers and they never respond. But not Brooke.” I thought it was a great compliment. Happy Monday!

  6. Is Buzzy leading music, casting spells, or having a sword fight?! Regardless, that’s one CUTE KID!

If you really want to take a learn-to-sew vacation at home, I know someone who would trade a machine loan, personalized instruction, and babysitting with a family Christmas photo shoot!

  7. I liked Vince’s idea for a workflow video (hoping to get Lightroom for Christmas!), and Kylene’s idea of linking to great articles/reads that you find.

  8. I also would love to see the lightening bolt! For magic Monday I vote for lighting in every which way. Also some of your tricks to get natural expressions. I stumbled on a good one last week- a 5 year old boy ran down the hill toward me and then froze at the bottom. I was able to get great close up shots of him with a fabulous smile because he was having a great time AND HE WASNT MOVING! Each time he struck a bit of a different pose so I also got a good variety of straight on, 3/4 of this face, etc. I’m definitely going to use that one again. I forgot to try the kids run into the frame that you did during our lesson- I need to try that out too!

  9. I would love to learn more about lighting. Also what positions flatter the body for the camera-posing. Your the best Brooke for sharing all of your knoledge 🙂
