I should have known…

That if he could learn to do THIS…

That climbing out of his crib would be nothing…

And it was.

My perfect life with his 2 hour naps is over. He climbs out in .0005 seconds flat.

What do I do now, oh wise ones?

  1. Oh no!!! That is one of my big fears too! My daughter sleeps in a sleepsac and the girl has just about outgrown the large ones and I’m terrified she’ll just throw that leg over once she’s got her freedom. Looks like you’ll be transitioning to a big boy bed now. Good luck ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. I’ve heard crib tents are amazing as well. If it’s any consolation, those pictures are awesome. How old is he? My oldest just turned 2 and I’m dreading the day he starts climbing out of the crib. I will definitely be trying out the crib tent when that happens. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. My twins did that just after they turned 2 also! It was very frustrating nonetheless. After a few days we just decided that it was time for big kid beds for both ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Oh no! Yep he looks like a good climber and I’m so sorry for your loss of his nap, but I’m sure he can enjoy a little bit of “quiet time” and maybe he’ll even fall asleep. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. such great suggestions everyone! Thank you! He’s not quite two yet (another month)…I was really hoping to put off getting a real bed for as long as possible…but the time may have arrived. How did time pass so quickly?

  6. Yes–this is the dreaded day for every mother!! Not looking forward to it for my 15 month old! However, those are amazing pictures of your adorable little guy!

  7. I’m with Grandma Barbie on this one. What an accomplishment! At least you’ll know where to find him once he can reach the bolt locks. Hide the step stools!!!

  8. I created a baby-proof room and put a baby gate across my son’s door. His bed was just a mattress on the floor so no fear of falling out, the closet was clipped shut with baby-proofing gear, and everything else in there was safe for a toddler. The very best part was that when I was pregnant with my second baby and so tired that I was falling over, I could go in there, lie down and take a nap even if my 2 year old was playing with blocks or reading books. That safe haven room was our heaven.

  9. The images are beautiful, Brooke, and I love that you resisted the temptation to be the over-protective mum and actually let him exercise his sense of adventure and experience the power that comes with his growing independence ๐Ÿ™‚ How quick they grow!

  10. Wait! There’s still hope! Take out the metal support that holds his crib mattress and drop his mattress onto the floor. He shouldn’t be able to climb out for awhile! When this works, you’ll be so grateful and will want to thank me profusely. You can thank me by offering me a seat in your lifestyle workshop! (kidding….mostly) Gorgeous set of photos, Brooke!

    1. ha ha! Thanks Kim ๐Ÿ™‚ We’re taking all the suggestions we can ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ll let you know how it goes!
