Inspired by Life: Grocery Store Shoot

This shoot was one on my personal project list this year. Although we shot it in May 2011, I finally finished the behind the scenes video version for my Lifestyle: Telling the Story class. If you’d like to view a teaser of the video, make sure you’re signed up for the Good Stuff list in the friendly left side bar, where I send out the entertaining short versions of the videos!

Brooke Snow is a Lifestyle photographer in Cache Valley, Utah.  Truth be told, she makes it to the grocery store only a few times a year.  Her delightful husband does all the grocery shopping and most of the cooking! Now how lucky is that?!

Brooke teaches inspiring online photography classes that bring you confidence in your skills and creativity.

  1. Brooke, the photos are so beautiful! The light is fabulous, the colors of the fruit and so really add to it.
One question: Did you have to ask for permission to shoot there?
Thanks for the video, so fun!

    1. Hi Ana! Yes, I did ask for permission! I just called the day before and told them what I wanted to do and they were totally fine with the idea 🙂 I always ask permission in public places like that!

  2. Brooke – Love it, love it, LOVE IT! I laughed out loud watching the video. What a clever and great idea to photograph a grocery store outing. You inspire me!

  3. These are so fun! Gotta tell ya that as I was looking through the photos, I was listening to Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons”, and the music matched the moods in each photo perfectly! ; )

  4. Okay Brooke, funny because one day when I was doing my shopping..someone who worked there was talking about ‘doing pictures in a grocery store’? I’m betting that was you! Haha! Such a cute shoot!

    1. ha ha! Thats awesome Rachel! Yes, we got a few confused faces while there 🙂 But thats whats awesome about it. Finding the beauty in the everyday makes people do a double take 🙂

  5. Awesome! We love these. They made us laugh out loud which we figure is at least one of the qualities of good photos! 🙂

  6. We LOVE LOVE LOVE these pictures! They are so filled with the energy and personality these kids really possess. This shoot was so fun and so fun-ny! The kids had a blast, and the strange looks and questions from onlookers were a kick 🙂 Thank you, thank you, dearest Brooke. As always, you capture the Real-ness of my girls.

  7. This session is fabulous! I love it! All of our grocery stores nearby have such yellow lighting…I wonder if I could do this with fill flash? Custom white balance? I’m not sure if a reflector would be helpful…

    1. Hi Ashley! I was worried about white balance too. I didn’t set a custom white balance, but I did set the white balance for flourescent lighting and shot in RAW so i could tweak it in post production. This seemed to work just fine 🙂 Good luck!
