Inspired by Life Episode #2

What is Inspired by Life?

What I learned from this shoot:

Oh heavens. ย I had no idea how vocal and interactive I was as a photographer (especially with children) until I lost that privilege and had to be quiet.

There were times I looked like an absolute fool because I was mouthing songs and breaking out animated expressions with no sound. ย The library was a FANTASTIC challenge to me, to see how I could create engaging images with literally, NOT SPEAKING. ย Remember the value of limitations?

I wanted the video to feature more footage from the actual session, but realized that it was a bunch of film with no sound ๐Ÿ™‚ ย I really didn’t talk! ย We were in a library after all!

I did my best to let things unfold naturally after a little bit of direction to initiate. ย Then I had to rely on old fashioned composition, perspective, and a dose of patience in waiting for the perfect moment.

Brooke Snow is a Lifestyle photographer in Cache Valley, Utah. She is on the countdown for the community library storytime age minimum to arrive so she and little dude can start their own tradition. There will need to be a slight transition from eating books to reading them. But all in due course.

Brooke teaches private photography lessons , online photography classes, as well as seasonal photography classes in Logan, Utah.

    1. Hey Devon! Inspired by Life is a mantra I’m taking for 2011 to avoid photography trends and plan shoots around everyday adventures ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for the reminder that I should probably link to my explanation of the concept ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Ok, I love this whole concept of shooting in a library. I too have memories of maxing out my number of library books.

I’ve been meaning to try the Beaverton or Hillsboro libraries as the buildings are absolutely beautiful, big windows, lots of wood paneling, and of course the books. Thanks for sharing these fun videos with everyone!

  2. Great shots Brooke! Your library is very different than mine. ๐Ÿ™‚ There’s always a huge line outside the doors at 10am because they offer “baby/toddler story-time” at that time too! I think I’d have to go at 2pm to have the children’s area be that empty. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Perfection as usual. You were so great with the kids. You really are inspiring. Thanks again for these precious shots.

  4. Brooke, thank you…You’ve totally triggered some thoughts I’d written down a long time ago and forgotten about. Now I just need to find a family! ๐Ÿ™‚

I always ask people what they like to do…but have never really figured out how to incorporated it into pictures. I think a lightbulb may have went off. But that’s because you’re such a great teacher.

You are awesome. Thank you for being so inspiring, for having such a giving spirit and being such a rock star! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Hooray Yvonne! Any possible way that you can personalize a shoot will create more authenticity and endear the entire experience and final images to the subject more than any typical portrait shoot. Hands down. Always. go for your great idea!

  6. Love it, love it! The pictures are lovely and you are delightful as ever. What great moments to capture.

  7. What day did you do this shoot? I think it was the very same day that I did a very similar shoot! The librarians were so funny. They wondered if there was something special going on for two photographers to want to photograph in the same spot in one day! Now I know who the other photographer was!

  8. hey Julie! Not sure the exact day off the top of my head. It was clear back in february. Just getting around to posting these now though. Good spot ๐Ÿ™‚ Great minds think alike ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Hi Brooke. So yes, I know it’s a been a year. But I wanted to let you know that when I dusted off my list of “dream” photoshoots, this one was at the top. I’ll shooting a session in a large local bookstore this Saturday! Thanks for the inspiration (even if it took a year for me to do it).

    1. I can’t wait to see what you did Vince! Libraries to me are one of the most inspiring places on earth ๐Ÿ™‚
