Ep. 24 Holding Space

Have you ever experienced the roller coaster of emotions? Either your own or someone else’s?

As humans, we can experience a full spectrum of emotion, from the depths of despair to the highs of joy. If we’re not intentional, we can swing our emotions whichever way the environment pulls.

Today’s podcast is all about holding space. More specifically, the power we have to choose the emotion we want to have and to hold onto it despite the emotional pull of the environment or people around us. This is a great skill to help you be a support to other people, as well as support to yourself when you encounter negative emotion around you.

  1. This podcast episode was SO helpful. Thank you for taking the time to produce it, Brooke! There were many “aha” moments for me as I listened. One of my favorites was when you said, “The times that I hold space well is directly linked to how much I have allowed God to hold space for me.” I now realize that’s something I could work on that would greatly improve my life. Thank you for all the message you bring weekly to your podcast. They are changing my life.

    1. Oh Heather! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! It means so much to me to hear feedback on these ideas! I’m grateful that this episode was so helpful to you! It was for me too, I learned a lot while putting it together, in particular, the exact takeaway that you mention… “The times I hold space well is directly linked to how much I have allowed God to hold space for me.” Maybe that message was for both of us!! 🙂 You are a great support to me! Hope you are doing well <3

    1. Kelly! I’m so grateful you enjoyed the podcast 🙂 Holding space is a practice that can transform pretty much anything 🙂 Thanks for listening!

  2. Hello! I found this podcast through Jamie Cook on Instagram. It is actually the first time I have ever listened to a podcast and I’m so glad I did! I had my 5th baby less than 3 weeks ago and we are still adjusting as a family. My 4 older kids (ages 7, 5, 3, and just turned 2) have a whole new level of energy and this is just what I needed to hear to get back some of the peace and joy in my home. Thank you for sharing!

    1. Lisa! I’m so happy to meet you! Welcome to the wonderful world of podcasts!! And congratulations on baby #5! You have your hands full! Nonetheless I believe in you and know you can do it! Holding space, (and allowing the Lord to hold the space for us) makes the impossible possible 🙂 Cheering you on!

  3. I am re-listening to this episode and so excited to share it with my 9 year old in Sunday school as I teach them the beattitudes. The best way to be a peace makers is to resonate and share God’s love, peace, and light!

    1. Danielle! Oh thank you so much for your comment, and for listening twice!! You’re right, this does fit so nicely with the beattitudes! Sounds like those 9 year olds are sure blessed to have such a great teacher! Here’s to holding space 🙂

  4. Wow! I so wish I had learned this when I was raising my three children alone. But it truly applies to my life now as a retiree. I’m generally the happy person in the room…and I enjoy seeing people synchronize to my vibrations (thank you for the vocabulary!)…and feeling The Spirit bring peace to the space. With this new information, perhaps that can be part of my ministry…to help people in low vibration modes synchronize to mine…and ultimately to the Godhead. Thank you Brooke! I really enjoyed listening to this (it was mentioned in this morning’s Relief Society meeting)…I’ll be listening to many more!

    1. Shelley! Oh my goodness! Your comment brought so much cheer to my day! I love that you know one of your gifts is “happiness”. Truly, souls like you are a blessing to the rest of us who need that sunny personality to lift us up! Absolutely this is an amazing spiritual gift and way that you can minister to others and hold that vibration for them to rise too! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts! You’re an inspiration to me!

  5. Thank you Brooke, I was explaining to a friend that I want to become better at listening, validating, and reflecting back what others share with me with love and compassion, and she recommended this podcast. And thank you so much for connecting this empathic experience with emotional frequencies, as well as the reminder that God sees and hears us with understanding and a very generous, loving space. Thank you.

    1. Heidi! So grateful you enjoyed the message of the podcast! Thank you for sharing your own thoughts!!
