What Is Your Definition of Success?

It’s one of the most important answers that you can figure out.  Right now.

How do you personally define success?

For you.

Take into account all of your current responsibilities, your strengths, your trials, your season of life and your dreams…

Whether it is defining your success as a parent or a business owner or anything in-between, I think we could avoid so much heartache, disappointment, sense of failure and the chronic epidemic of comparisons if we realistically answered this one question for ourselves.

Several months ago I stumbled upon Sarah J. Bray’s personal definition of success in the Going Pro Magazine.  I gasped out loud.  I wanted THAT definition of success for ME!

Sarah says, “My definition of success is that I enjoy an abundance of space in my life. Space in my time. Space in my finances. Space in my relationships. I don’t want to feel squeezed and pressured. Anything that makes me feel that way is not success for me.”

Spaciousness.

Quite the opposite from a general vision of “busy-ness” equalling success.

Either definition works, if it’s the right one for you. But we can’t measure our effectiveness if we haven’t set our own defined standard.

  1. My success level is measured against how I feel deep to my bones when my family believes in me, when my clients believe in me and when I believe in myself simultaneously.

  2. I remember reading Sarah’s quote and loved it then. I’m so glad you reminded me of it. I agree with her…having space in my calendar, space to do what I want, space to just be with my family, space in my budget, space to drop in and visit a friend. Space in my life makes me feel like I’m doing something right.
