Are you a receiver or a giver?
Ideally, we really should be both, but we can tend to dominate in one or the other. (Honestly, most people I know are givers and struggle to receive.)
I recently made the observation that when we talk about giving and receiving we always talk about it in that order.
Giving nearly always comes first…
But guess what? In actuality, giving does not come first. You cannot give what you have not received.
It would actually be more accurate to flip the order and say “receiving and giving”.
So that’s what I’m doing now, flipping the order every time I reference this energetic exchange.
Receiving and giving.
Receiving and giving.
Receiving and giving.
Doesn’t that sound way different?
And wait… pause for a moment and just feel into the energy of those words…
Receiving and giving.
Doesn’t it feel different too?
What do you notice happening inside your own body from switching the order? Maybe you resist it? Maybe it makes you expand? There’s no right or wrong answer, it’s just interesting to observe.
When it comes to living our own life purpose, it can be really easy to pile on the pressure and expectation that we are meant to give give give. As we’ve all experienced before, this is a recipe for burnout. And of all the things we definitely do not want you burn out on, it’s living your purpose!
